I bought my Egg-bot last year. I first read the newsitem and later saw a video and I just could not stop smiling! I was not in time for easter but I can tell you: you will find loads of occasions to put this little plotter to work (think birthday breakfasts, christmas-balls, glasses and even a personalized bowl) .
There are accessories you can get (for engraving etc) but in the basis the Egg-bot is a plotter that prints with pens (you get some but you can use many). You can run it with with inkscape, to draw vector graphics on many curved items. It is easy to use but you should consider that if you want to use multiple colors on an item you have to switch pens for each color. That makes it somewhat slow and I end up using it for the single color items most.
I had been using Inkscape before (it is open-source and simple the best software to turn an image you find online into a great looking vector) so I knew where to start but i assure you, it is nothing major to get to know.
The Egg-bot kit itself is fairly easy to make. I am handy around the house but not an electronic engineer by trade. But I did not lack skills to get the job done and it is very well documented so, don?t let that be a blocking issue.
The biggest downside to the whole thing is that Easter only comes once a year. But I can tell you one thing: I?ll be one popular dad this year!
