Wat is een oscilloscoop? Wat zijn de voordelen van een digitale oscilloscoop?

Oscilloscopen zijn elektronische instrumenten waarmee we op een 2D plot verschillende signalen kunnen visualiseren als functie van de tijd. Oscilloscopen zijn in verschillende maten verkrijgbaar en kunnen iedereen met belangstelling voor elektronica – van leerlingen tot makers tot vakmensen – in staat stellen te ontdekken hoe golfvormen variëren als een schakeling wordt aangepast.

Een digitale oscilloscoop is een handig hulpmiddel om de respons van een schakeling te analyseren, en het stelt ons in staat op het scherm waar te nemen wat onze ogen niet kunnen zien. Met een digitale oscilloscoop kun je de analoge uitgangen van sensoren testen en debuggen, en je kunt verschillende parameters, zoals amplitude, frequentie, en vervorming, verifiëren en snel analyseren.

Als je naar een oscilloscoop kijkt, zie je het beeldscherm en de knoppen voor de verticale instellingen, de horizontale instellingen en de triggering. Het beeldscherm is meestal een kathodestraalbuis (CRT), die niet alleen voor oscilloscopen gebruikt wordt, maar ook voor andere toepassingen, zoals televisie en computermonitors. Zijn functie is het omzetten van een elektrisch signaal in een visuele weergave.

Welke soorten oscilloscopen zijn er? En wat zijn de verschillen?

Tegenwoordig zijn digitale oscilloscopen de meest populaire soort. Bij een analoge oscilloscoop wordt de golfvorm in de oorspronkelijke vorm weergegeven, terwijl een digitale oscilloscoop de oorspronkelijke analoge golfvorm bemonstert en het resultaat omzet in digitale getallen, en dan in digitaal formaat opslaat.

Een ander belangrijk type oscilloscoop is de USB-oscilloscoop. Hij wordt met behulp van een USB-poort bediend via een computer of tablet. De USB-oscilloscoop heeft een of meer analoge kanalen, eventueel digitale kanalen, en knoppen of schakelaars voor de bediening.

USB-oscilloscopen zijn minder duur dan de traditionele omdat de grafische weergave door de host PC wordt verzorgd. Een A/D-converter en een USB-interface zijn alles wat nodig is voor een USB-oscilloscoop. Bovendien zijn USB-oscilloscopen meestal klein en kunnen ze gebruikt worden op plaatsen waar de toegang beperkt is. Bovendien zijn ze een prima oplossing voor toepassingen die flexibiliteit vereisen, want ze zijn een prima optie als draagbare variant.

Een automotive oscilloscoop is een noodzakelijk instrument voor het opsporen van storingen aan allerlei elektronische onderdelen in voertuigen. Bovendien wordt hij vaak door autotechnici gebruikt voor autodiagnostiek. Het enige verschil tussen een automotive oscilloscoop en een digitale oscilloscoop is dat hij extra mogelijkheden biedt voor het testen en diagnosticeren.
