Dit boek is bedoeld voor diegenen die zich bezig houden met geluidsversterking en geluidsdistributie. Het gaat in op de akoestische eigenschappen van open, halfopen en omsloten ruimten. Belangrijk is hoe luidsprekers aangepast kunnen worden op allerlei omgevingen. Meestal moet men een keuze maken uit het aanbod van luidsprekers en microfoons. De vraag is dan welke luidspreker en microfoon de juiste keuze zijn. En hoe deze moeten worden opgesteld waarbij spraak- en muziekverstaanbaarheid en de maximaal haalbare versterking in de live-situatie de belangrijkste criteria zijn. Dit boek geeft antwoord op die vragen. Verder wordt de lezer meegenomen naar het ontwerpen van luidsprekers op basis van de T/S parameters. Met eenvoudige software is het mogelijk akoestische en mechanische elementen van een luidspreker met de eventuele behuizing te vertalen naar de elektrische analogieën, zodat de luidspreker op de PC gesimuleerd kan worden. Aan de hand van rekenvoorbeelden worden bovenstaande simulaties ondersteund. Tot slot zijn in de referentielijst een aantal internetlinks opgenomen waaruit zeer waardevolle gegevens gehaald kunnen worden. De auteur, Peter Swarte, is natuurkundig ingenieur en was werkzaam bij Philips. Momenteel is hij_eigenaar van consultancy bureau P.A.S. Electro Acoustics en is hij actief lid van zowel het NAG (Nederlands Akoestisch Genootschap) als de AES (Audio Engineering Society).

Retro Radio is een praktijkboek voor beginners en uitermate geschikt voor iedereen die wel eens een radio zou willen bouwen en meer wil weten over de radiotechniek. Na een inleiding in de beginselen van de techniek en de radio-ontvangst op de korte golf komen een aantal eenvoudige radio-ontwerpen aan bod. Het gaat om radio’s voor de middengolf en korte golf, waarbij de KG radio’s geschikt zijn voor de ontvangst van Single Side Band signalen. Het “retro” karakter dankt het boek aan het feit dat de gepubliceerde schakelingen klassiekers zijn uit de analoge radiotechniek. Ze zijn geïnspireerd door schakelingen uit de jaren ’50 en de begintijd van de radiotechniek. De auteur grijpt terug op de radio in zijn meest elementaire vorm. Al het “overbodige” is uit de schakelingen weggelaten. Er wordt gewerkt met spoelen, afstemcondensatoren, keramische filters en spoelfilters. Alle schakelingen zijn gebouwd met gewone transistors en een veldeffecttransistor. Elektronische chips worden niet gebruikt. Overigens is aan de nieuwste ontwikkelingen niet helemaal voorbij gegaan. Er is ook een SDR ontwerp opgenomen. Een greep uit de schema’s: een kristalradio, verschillende middengolf ontvangers (ook met een radiobuis), een “oer” schema geïnspireerd door de begintijd van de radio, twee korte golf ontvangers met SSB (2-12 MHz en 6-17 MHz) en een ontvanger voor de 80 meter band. Verder is in dit boek bijzonder veel aandacht besteed aan de praktische constructie van de radio’s en zijn er verschillende eenvoudige meetapparaten beschreven die dienst kunnen doen bij het ontwerpen en testen van radio’s (meetzender, absorptiemeter, transistortester e.d.).

Dem aktuellen Trend folgend behandelt der Autor insbesondere die mobile Stromversorgungstechnik sowie die Schaltnetzteiltechnik. Dabei wird berücksichtigt, dass Stromkonstanter gegenüber Spannungskonstantern zunehmend an Bedeutung gewinnen. Voor thuis en op school Dit boekje is gericht op leerlingen en natuurkunde docenten in het voortgezet onderwijs. Met voorbeelden op verschillende gebieden van de fysica, geeft het aan hoe een populair microprocessor platform als Arduino toegepast kan worden in het natuurkunde practicum. We passen Arduino onder andere toe als nauwkeurig meetinstrument, zodat metingen uitgewerkt kunnen worden in een spread sheet. Hoewel enige handigheid niet overbodig is, kunnen de beschreven experimenten kunnen ook uitstekend thuis worden uitgevoerd. In dat opzicht wil dit boek met name bij de jeugd de interesse wekken voor de toepassing van microprocessoren. In de hobbysfeer is dat niet alleen een zinvolle tijdsbesteding, maar bovenal interessant en leuk. Veiligheid staat uiteraard voorop bij het doen van experimenten. Energie, licht en warmte zijn onuitputtelijke bronnen, maar ze kunnen ook gevaar opleveren. Voor dit boek geldt dan ook het motto: Eerst denken, dan doen.
