USB-to-DMX512 Isolator (160493-91)
Overview
Today many cheap converters for controlling show lighting. However, they are not isolated, resulting in the risk of blowing up the USB of the PC should a short circuit happen.
Well-isolated USB-to-DMX512 converters are very expensive, which has given the need for an alternative design that makes them cheaper than the standard isolated converters.

The schematic is based on the Entec open DMX. However, an isolated RS-485 transceiver of Analog devices was chosen in combination with a circuit monitor. An isolated DC/DC converter is used for power isolation. The PCB is designed with a Bopla housing in mind.
The converter was tested with Freestyler on Windows. MacOS has been tested with Lightkey and QLC+. During the various tests, RGB LED spotlights and scanners were used and with more than satisfactory results
