Evil Mad Science EggBot Deluxe - Open-source Art Robot

    1 review

    Out of stock

The EggBot is a friendly art robot that can draw on spherical or egg-shaped objects from the size of a ping pong ball to that of a small Grapefruit – roughly 1.25 to 4.25 inches in diameter (3 - 10 cm). You can use EggBot on all kinds of spherical objects. Use it to create the most impressive Easter eggs, personalize Christmas ornaments or even golf balls or light bulbs. The EggBot is not just a cool gadget; it’s also a great introduction to CNC (computer numerical control) and do-it-yourself robotics. All of the electronics and software are designed to be hackable and repurposable, so you could easily computer control an Etch-a-Sketch or create something totally new. The EggBot software allows you to control the ‘bot from within Inkscape – a superb freeware illustration program – on Mac, Windows, or Linux computers. You can draw an image directly, trace a photograph, or import designs from other programs. You can also control the EggBot directly from many other programs that have the ability to send serial commands over a USB port. The EggBot kit in the Elektor online store is the most popular of all; the Deluxe Version! The EggBot kits are recommended for ages 10 and up, although for kids under 13 adult supervision is recommended. Universal power supply included! (with US-EU adapter).

  • EggBot Pro – Open-source kunstrobot

Evil Mad Science EggBot Pro - Open-source Art Robot

    1 review

    Out of stock

The EggBot Pro is a complete re-imagining of the EggBot, designed for rigidity, ease of use, and faster setup. Its major components are solid aluminum, CNC machined in the USA, and powder coated or anodized. It's sturdy as can be. The frame has an open front, for greatly improved accessibility and visibility while you are plotting. The most common mechanical adjustments are faster with bicycle-style quick releases and repositioned thumbscrews for easier access. And, it comes fully assembled and ready to use. Assuming that you've installed the software first, you can be up and printing within minutes of opening the box. The EggBot Pro fits spherical and egg-shaped objects from roughly the size of a gumball to that of a light bulb — about 1 to 3.5 inches in diameter (2.5 - 9 cm). Perfect for ping pong balls, golf balls, chicken eggs, and similarly sized objects. The movements of the pen and egg motors are controlled by high-torque precision stepping motors, and the pen lift mechanism is a quiet and reliable servo motor. The included EiBotBoard v2.0 (EBB) driver board uses 16× micro stepping to give a resolution of 3200 steps/revolution in both axes. A universal-input plug-in power supply is included with the EggBot kit, as is a USB cable and one black Sharpie marker. To operate the EggBot Pro, you will need a reasonably modern computer with an available USB port (Mac, Windows or Linux), plus internet access to download the necessary software. The EggBot is usually controlled through a set of open-source extensions to Inkscape, the excellent, popular and free vector graphics program. The basic operation is much like that of a printer driver: you import or make a drawing in Inkscape, and use the extensions to plot your drawing onto whatever object you've mounted in the EggBot. It's all handled through an easy to use graphical user interface and works cleanly on Mac, Windows, and Linux. The standard pen holder included with the EggBot kit is designed to fit various art pens including Sharpie Ultra Fine Point and Sharpie Fine Point pens. However, it can fit almost any pen of similar size. You can even fit a lot of things that aren't pens. One example: We offer a diamond point engraving tool for EggBot (shown here), capable of etching and engraving hard materials like glass, stone, and ceramic.

  • Magnetic Easel for AxiDraw (Tabloid/A3)

Evil Mad Science Magnetic Easel for AxiDraw (Tabloid/A3)

    Out of stock

The Tabloid/A3 size Magnetic Easel is a sturdy work-holding tool that provides an alternative method of positioning paper or other workpieces for use with the AxiDraw V3/A3 and AxiDraw SE/A3. A heavy-duty alternative to the regular A3 clip easel, it can be used with binder clips or the (included) positioning rulers, magnets, and magnetic spring clips. The base of the easel is a heavy-gauge sheet of magnetic steel. It has a powder-coat finish, lightly textured to help hold paper in place and light gray in color for visible contrast against most types of paper. Rubber bumpers on the bottom side (along with the substantial weight of the steel) ensure a no-slip grip on your work table. To help index your paper in a consistent and reproducible position, the easel includes two six-inch (15 cm) rulers that you can rest your paper up against. The rulers are easy to remove and reversible, with inch and centimeter markings on the two sides. They can also be removed completely if you like, leaving just a flat sheet of steel (with a few ruler-mounting holes in it). This A3 easel also includes a special set of paper holding clips and magnets: Two special spring clips with magnetic bases, plus six skinny magnets for holding down paper. The two special spring clips each have two curved tines that apply gentle pressure to your paper. They allow you to slide paper directly in and out, quickly and easily, without touching any magnets, clips, or tape. They have a long reach to be positioned behind the rulers, or elsewhere if you prefer. Magnetic bases allow you to position them where needed. Two of these spring clips provide just enough pressure to keep a sheet of paper steady while you write or draw on it. This set also includes six cylindrical magnets, 4 mm in diameter and 10 mm tall, which are easy to position and firmly hold paper. The tall aspect ratio makes them particularly easy to grasp (unlike disc magnets). Perhaps more importantly, they tend to yield and tip over if hit by an errant pen tip, rather than holding so fast as to damage your pen or move your paper. Overall dimensions: 18.12 x 12.72' (46.0 x 32.3 cm) Suitable for use with A3 and US Tabloid/Ledger paper sizes, envelopes, two sheets of Letter or A4 paper, or smaller sizes of paper.

  • AxiDraw V3/A3 Writing and Drawing Machine

Evil Mad Science AxiDraw V3/A3 Writing and Drawing Machine

    Out of stock

As compared to the (US Letter/A4 sized) AxiDraw V3, the AxiDraw V3/A3 has extended travel range, designed for use with paper sizes up to and including 11 × 17 inch ('tabloid' or 'ledger') and A3. It can work with any paper up to and including that size, including envelopes, regular US letter (8 1/2 × 11 inch) or A4 (297 × 210 mm) sized paper, note cards, business cards, or a whole array of smaller items. The AxiDraw comes with a mounting easel (board with clips) that can be used for holding paper, cards, and envelopes of various sizes. The AxiDraw V3/A3 also comes standard with AxiDraw Outrigger Feet pre-installed, for greater stance and stability while plotting. The unique design of the AxiDraw features a drawing head that extends beyond the body of the machine, making it possible to also draw on flat objects bigger than the machine itself. For example, you can set it right on top of a box to write an address or add decorations. You can even set it on top of a poster board, chalkboard, or whiteboard to draw graphics in place. The pen holder fits a wide variety of pens, including Sharpie fine and ultra-fine point markers, most rollerball and fountain pens, small-bodied whiteboard markers, and so forth. It can even hold a fountain pen at a proper angle of 45° to the paper. You can also use implements that aren't pens, such as pencils, chalk, charcoal, brushes, and many others. However, you'll get the best results with instruments such as fountain pens and rollerball pens, which do not require the user to apply pressure. Getting Started The AxiDraw comes fully assembled, tested, and ready to use, right out of the box. A universal-input plug-in power supply is included with the AxiDraw, as is a USB cable, and an optional paper-holding easel. Assuming that you've installed the software first, you can be up and plotting within minutes of opening the box. The comprehensive PDF user guide walks you through every step of the process. To operate AxiDraw, you will need a reasonably modern computer with an available USB port (Mac, Windows or Linux), plus internet access to download necessary software. Pens and paper are not included. (You can use your own! AxiDraw does not require proprietary pens or paper.) AxiDraw is normally controlled through a set of extensions to Inkscape, the excellent, popular and free vector graphics program. Basic operation is much like that of a printer driver: you import or make a drawing in Inkscape, and use the extensions to plot your text or artwork. It's all handled through a straightforward graphical user interface, and works cleanly on Mac, Windows and Linux. The Pen clip rotation stage is a lightweight adapter allows you to mount the instrument at arbitrary angles, and fine-tune that angle over a range of 90 degrees with a precision of 1 degree.This adapter is not normally needed in general writing and drawing usage. However certain precision applications of the AxiDraw – particularly those using the AxiDraw as a general purpose XY motion control stage – may find this to be helpful. Some users have also found it useful for fine-tuning the angle that a pen is mounted at when using italic or chisel-tip pens in combination with the Italic pen adapter. You can attach the rotation stage to the front face of the AxiDraw in two orientations, vertical or at 45° from vertical. These orientations, along with the 90°adjustment range, allow you to either adjust between vertical and horizontal, or between vertical and ±45° from vertical. Two small thumbscrews and an engraved bezel allow you to make adjustments and set the angle.Specifications Material: Anodized 6061-T6 aluminum Size: Outer radius 64 mm, height 48 mm, thickness 4.6 mm (excluding mounting hardware) Weight: Approximately 11 g Mounting hardware: included (2 each M3 flat head cap screws, M2 socket cap screws w/washers, 1.5 mm hex wrench) CompatibilityThis adapter is compatible only with AxiDraw V3 family pen plotters that mount the pen on a 2-hole vertical slide. This includes all AxiDraw SE/A3, AxiDraw V3/A3 and AxiDraw V3 XLX units, and all AxiDraw V3 units manufactured after February 2017.

  • Italic Pen Adapter for AxiDraw

Evil Mad Science Italic Pen Adapter for AxiDraw

    3 in stock

The AxiDraw's pen holder normally holds the pen parallel to the front face of the vertical pen slide, either vertically or at 45° from vertical. This heavy-gauge aluminum adapter sits between the front face of the vertical slide and the pen clip, and serves to rotate the pen tip an additional 45°, not from vertical but out from parallel to the front face of the vertical slide. This gives the AxiDraw the ability to hold a pen in a 'right handed' grip, as opposed to the normal 'center-handed' (for lack of a better description) position. The right-handed grip makes it possible to hold the pen at a consistent angle suitable for use with regular pens, but also stub, italic, parallel, and chisel-point pens. Compatibility This adapter is compatible only with AxiDraw V3 family pen plotters that mount the pen on a 2-hole vertical slide. This includes all AxiDraw V3/A3 and AxiDraw V3 XLX units, and all AxiDraw V3 units manufactured after February 2017.

  • Hold-down Magnet and Clip Set for AxiDraw

Evil Mad Science Hold-down Magnet and Clip Set for AxiDraw

    3 in stock

The set of magnets and spring clips is designed for use with the AxiDraw magnetic easel boards for letter/A4 and tabloid/A3 sizes, but can be used with almost any magnetic surface. The set includes a pair of special spring clips with magnetic bases, as well as six skinny magnets for holding down paper. The two special spring clips each have two curved tines that apply gentle pressure to your paper. They allow you to slide paper directly in and out, quickly and easily, without touching any magnets, clips, or tape. They have a long reach to be positioned behind the rulers on our magnetic easels.

  • Magnetic Easel for AxiDraw (Letter/A4)

Evil Mad Science Magnetic Easel for AxiDraw (Letter/A4)

    Out of stock

The Letter/A4 size Magnetic Easel is a sturdy work-holding tool that provides an alternative method of positioning paper or other workpieces for use with the AxiDraw. A heavy-duty alternative to the regular clip easel, it can be used with binder clips or the (included) positioning rulers and magnets. The base of the easel is a heavy-gauge sheet of magnetic steel. It has a powder-coat finish, lightly textured to help hold paper in place and light gray in color for visible contrast against most types of paper. Rubber bumpers on the bottom side (along with the weight of the steel) ensure a no-slip grip on your work table. This easel also includes six cylindrical magnets, 4 mm in diameter and 10 mm tall, that you can use to hold your paper down firmly. Their size and shape make them particularly easy to grasp and position (unlike, for example, disc magnets). Perhaps more importantly, they tend to yield and tip over if hit by an errant pen tip, rather than holding so fast as to damage your pen or move your paper. An optional set of paper holding clips can be added as well if you so choose. Overall dimensions: 12.875 × 9.580' (32.7 × 24.3 cm) Suitable for use with A4 and US letter paper sizes, envelopes, and smaller sizes of paper.

  • AxiDraw SE/A3 Writing and Drawing Machine

Evil Mad Science AxiDraw SE/A3 Writing and Drawing Machine

    Out of stock

The AxiDraw SE/A3 has the same extended plotting area as the AxiDraw V3/A3. In place of the central extrusion that makes up the body of that machine, the AxiDraw SE/A3 has a central beam that is CNC machined from a solid billet of 6061-T6 aluminum, and then anodized to a sleek black finish. This heavy, rigid structure – it's a solid block of metal! – provides dramatically better straightness and stiffness, even compared to the already-stiff AxiDraw V3/A3. This design adds mass exactly where you want it: to the non-moving base that forms the X-axis of the machine. In order to keep the weight light where it matters, the moving Y-axis of the AxiDraw SE/A3 uses the same stiff and light custom aluminum extrusion that we use on the AxiDraw V3/A3.Beyond this, the central beam and X-axis of the AxiDraw SE/A3 feature an all-new geometry for the rolling wheels, which provides more stable and uniform motion along the axis.Getting StartedThe AxiDraw comes fully assembled, tested, and ready to use, right out of the box. A universal-input plug-in power supply is included with the AxiDraw, as is a USB cable, and an optional paper-holding easel. Assuming that you've installed the software first, you can be up and plotting within minutes of opening the box. Our comprehensive PDF user guide walks you through every step of the process. To operate AxiDraw, you will need a reasonably modern computer with an available USB port (Mac, Windows or Linux), plus internet access to download necessary software. Pens and paper are not included. (You can use your own; AxiDraw does not require proprietary pens or paper.)AxiDraw is normally controlled through a set of extensions to Inkscape, the excellent, popular and free vector graphics program. Basic operation is much like that of a printer driver: you import or make a drawing in Inkscape, and use the extensions to plot your text or artwork. It's all handled through a straightforward graphical user interface, and works cleanly on Mac, Windows and Linux.SpecificationsPerformance Usable pen travel (inches): 16.93 × 11.69 inches Usable pen travel (millimeters): 430 × 297 mm Vertical pen travel: 0.7 inch (17 mm) Maximum XY travel speed: 15 inches (38 cm) per second Native XY resolution: 2032 steps per inch (80 steps per mm) Reproducibility (XY): Typically better than 0.005 inches (0.1 mm) at low speeds. • Outrigger Feet for AxiDraw V3

Evil Mad Science Outrigger Feet for AxiDraw V3

This pair of extended "outrigger" feet for AxiDraw V3 and AxiDraw V3 XLX consists of a pair of machined aluminum struts with large 1/2" diameter (12 mm) rubber foot pads set securely in recesses. It greatly increases the effective base area of the AxiDraw, making it much more stable when plotting, and capable of carrying heavier tools without worry of tipping over. In addition to providing a larger footprint, the outrigger feet also provide four mounting holes that make it easier to secure your AxiDraw to a surface, should you choose to do so. Each foot strut has two top-side accessible #8/M4 clearance holes. Installation is straightforward: Remove the two screws that hold the standard foot plates to the bottom of the AxiDraw, and attach these struts in their place with the included screws.
