Elektor RSS

What can I do with RSS
RSS is eminently suited to exchanging electronic content. A PC can request a text file, interpret its contents and present it to the user in a certain way.

What’s needed for RSS?
The most frequently used applications of RSS make use of RSS readers. A number of RSS readers are available for mainstream computer platforms (Windows, Linux and Mac). They all collect copy for you and provide an overview of content on the web. These programs also signal the publication of new content on a website.

The most frequently used RSS readers are
Feedreader (Windows; free)
-  RSSReader (Windows; free)
-  Sharpreader (Windows; free)
-  AmphetaDesk (Linux,Mac, Windows; free)
-  NetNewsWire(Mac; free)
-  NewzCrawler (Windows; paid)
-  Radio UserLand (Mac, Windows;paid)
-  Syndirella (Windows; free)

What is RSS?
RSS is a standard for text layout. Its main advantage is that a computer program is able to interpret content (or ‘copy’). For example, there is a clear distinction between the article heading , a link and the article text.

What is an ‘RSS feed’?
An RSS feed exists if an RSS-compatible text file is refreshed at certain times.
