On Friday March 30, the C. Crane Company, based in Fortuna, CA, launched its new GeoBulb LED light bulb, which uses 7.5 watts to provide as much light as a 60-watt incandescent light bulb, and boasts a lifespan of 30,000 hours (or 10 years) with typical use. The company calls its product “ The best light bulb in the world ” and claims that the bulb could reduce worldwide energy use by 10 percent, cutting energy bills in half over the next 10 years.
The company has been developing this particular product for the last three years, and now that it's finally launched, President Robert C. Crane said he hopes it will encourage other developers to come up with more energy efficient products.
The bulb is available in three color spectrums: Cool, soft and warm. While the bulb seems to hit all the energy notes, the price is comparatively high — the bulb currently costs $119. The price reportedly was one of the hurdles the company plans to address in the future. The bulb was designed with a typical consumer in mind and was made to be an easy method of being energy efficient.
The new bulb is available directly from C. Crane Co.
