Elektor is publishing a special issue dedicated to light emitting diodes (LEDs). In addition to theoretical information, “LEDS 1” describes where and how LEDs are currently used. This special issue also includes tested circuits for DIY construction, so that electronics enthusiasts at all levels of experience can personally try out LED applications.
From the various articles in this first Elektor LED special issue, it is clear that LED technology is relentlessly making new inroads. However, up to now the breakthrough in the “killer app” area of projection technology has not been realised. We investigate the current state of the art in LED beamer technology in an extensive article.
LEDs are also rapidly replacing incandescent lamps in car headlights. In “LEDs 1” we provide an overview of what car makers currently have in the pipeline with regard to LED lighting. Other interesting items include an analysis of the life cycle of LED lamps and an article by Anne Stroot and Stephan Klesy of PREMA Semiconductor on a DC/DC converter with constant current output for 0.5-W and 1-W power LEDs.
The DIY projects include a universal LED lamp with programmable dissolves, an artistic LED dimmer with continuously adjustable colour mixture, an electronic die with LEDs for the points, and last but not least, a DIY ambient lighting device with Bluetooth interface.
The Elektor LED Special issue (100 pages) is available now, but quantities are limited. Order your copy now, and we’ll pay the shipping cost!
