If from time to time you can’t get any fun from electronics at the design or repair level, simply rip old gear apart and use the bits for applications that are impossible or at least difficult to relate to the flow of electrons, the shifting around of logic 0’s and 1, or Ohm’s Law.
In Brussels, birdhouses were spotted made from old VHS video tape cassettes and their boxes. Just in case you’ve fallen behind, VHS these days equates to technojunk (or technotrash) — everyone’s got DVD recorders now!
Elektor applauds the eco-friendly initiative and invites all E-weekly readers to come up with alternative applications of technojunk the world should know about.
On a more serious note, and with another invitation to you, Elektor’s series of articles called ‘Retronics’ covers vintage electronics including famous Elektor projects from the dim past. Since launching the series, over 50 installments have been published. Retronics is an open platform. If you feel you can supply an installment on an old time favorite, let me know on editor@elektor.com. It’s easy, all I need is 700-odd words and two high res photographs of that kit you could never part with.
