Improving the pick-up angle of an infra-red satellite receiver remote

When the TV is on a rotating base and the satellite receiver remains fixed, the infrared remote sometimes has trouble getting through to the satellite receiver. This is easy to put right if you’re a bit of a DIYer, as all you have to do is add a second infra-red detector in parallel with the receiver’s existing one.
