More ingenuity in solar car design

Published in issue 370, October 2007

Astounding Engineering
It all started in September last year. Since then over 40,000 man-hours have been invested on the solar car by Solar Team Twente. They have picked a daring design, based on the positively phototropic behaviour of sunflowers. Some very creative brainstorming took place to find the best possible performance for the World Solar Challenge 2007 in Australia. Tilting solar panels with Fresnel lenses aim to maximise the yield of the sun's energy in this solar car.
