Electronics comes to the rescue again: is the person using a machine really who they say they are? Passwords have not shown themselves to be a foolproof form of identification, and the trend is now towards biometric methods, including fingerprints, becoming more widely used. We look at how fingerprint sensors work and at the advantages and disadvantages of the various techniques.
