Published in issue 349, December 2005

Tune in with MATLAB
DRM broadcasts provide unparalleled programme quality on short, medium and long wave frequencies. Diorama is a new open-source DRM decoder program developed at the University of Kaiserslautern, Germany. With the addition of a little hardware it can decode these long range transmissions and play them in real-time on a PC. A strongpoint of this implementation is its use of MATLAB which provides an insight into the nuts and bolts of signal processing.
