Simple LiPo Charger
Lithium-polymer batteries are becoming increasingly common in new electronics equipment. They are superior in terms of both size and weight compared to NiCd and NiMH batteries. However, the charging method for LiPo cells is completely different from other battery types. In this article we present a simple but effective charger for this type of battery.

Components

Resistors:

R1 = 49kΩ9 1%
R2 = 12kΩ4 1%
R3 = 270Ω
R4 = 11kΩ3 1%
R5 = 4kΩ87 1%
R6,R8,R9,R14,R18 = 1kΩ
R7 = 1Ω 2W
R10 = 301kΩ 1%
R11 = 174kΩ 1%
R12 = 1kΩ5 1%
R13 = 10Ω
R15 = 121kΩ 1%
R16 = 60kΩ4 1%
R17 = 30kΩ1 1%
R19 = 1kΩ 1%
R20 = 27kΩ
R21 = 4kΩ7
Capacitors:
C1,C5 = 10µF 25V radial
C2,C3,C4,C6,C9 = 100nF
C7 = 1µF 25V radial
C8 = 2µF2 25V radial
C10,C11 = 680nF
Inductors:
L1 = suppressor coil 35µH >2A (e.g. Digikey # M5727-ND)
Semiconductors:
D1 = 1N5400 (e.g., Digikey # 1N5400RLOSCT-ND)
D2,D3 = 31DQ04 (e.g., Digikey # 31DQ04-ND)
D4 = LED, red, low-current
D5 = LED, green, low-current
IC1 = LT1510CN (Linear Technology, www.linear.com)
