BASIC STamp programming course (8)

final: the photophobic robot

Published in issue 287, April 2000

Phase 3: the photophobic robot and subsumptive programmingIt would be interesting if the robot had some higher purpose than just wandering randomly around the room. Let’s make a cricket-like behaviour, a bug that looks for a dark corner in which to hide. We describe the behaviour that makes our robot seek darkness and avoid light as photophobic which means ‘fear of light’. Fear is a living being’s emotion, but we can make our robot appear to fear light with this behaviour! Build the light sensor circuits in earlier instalments to use this code.
