[040360]

Hi all,
I want to make this project. I have the article from the 1001 circuits CD, & have dowloaded the other info. I tried to find the PC Board on
ThePCBShop.com website. Managed to get on the website but did not find the PCB for this project which should be 040360-PCB.

Is this PC Board still available? & if so where from?

Regards,
Bravo

Hi Bravo,

Try e-mailing them. They should have the design files for this project!

Be sure to check on availability of all the components before you burn money on an older project like this!

Hi All,
I managed to find the boards on Euro circuits site. I have found everything now except the 100Mhz resonator from Tai SAW. Tai Saw says minimum order 1000 pieces at US$15 each. Presumably these were available from another company ? Can anyone who has built this project advise me where they git the resonator from, perhaps the same place has a couple left. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Bravo

Hi All,
Correction to last question - resonator I need is 1000 Mhz not 100 Mhz.

What's the full part number of the part you need? I don't have that magazine issue.

Hi Bravo,

I am also doing this project as well. There are a couple of parts i am struggling to find.

Semiconductors
D1...D4 = MA4P7001 (UPP9401E3TR) (Microsemi part)
T1, T2 = BF979 (Vishay semiconductor)
T10 = BFR91-A (Vishay semiconductor)
The manufacture websites are saying these parts are obsolete.

Where did you manage to find these parts?

Also the 1000MHz resonator (TC0306A) can be purchased from Golledge Electronics Ltd.

Cheers,

Meggerman

Hi,
I too would like to build this, but I was going to make my own PCB.
I could do with the artwork files or the component overlays.
Has anyone got an overhead photo of the board showing the components in place?
The DDS chip is eye wateringly expensive at about 50GBP.

Cheers
Rob

Hi,
I have emailed Elektor to ask for further information on this project but so far no reply.

As there appears to be little I can find on this project it does make me think it never really took off, but I would love to hear from someone who has built it and has some pictures of it in action.

Getting the parts are a real issue, you can most of them, but some at a price:
I have contacted Minicircuits about ERA-5 SM Monolithic Amplifier and they state a minimum qty of 20 and minimum order value, I think it was about £50.

The 1GHz resonator is also a tricky one to find.
Even some of the diodes and transistors seem to be difficult to track down.
As mentioned above some are obsolete already (BFR91-A found on ebay in Germany seller koediefu).

I have found for most of the expensive ICs that Digikey seems better than Farnell on pricing.

The other option is to go out and buy a ready built Rigol DSA815 with tracking generator. This is probably more than 3 times the price of this kit and less fun to build.

Cheers
Rob
