Profiler Friends

I have a problem with my Profiler. After realizing that the wood base would be a great problem in the PCB’s production, I’ve decided to build an aluminium base, which was cheap and already proved to be better than the original.

But my problem is with FERM splindle motor. As someone already said, the bearings become ruined after little use. I've replaced them and the problem continued: an enormous allowance in the bearings which hinders a good milling. The problem may be a deficiency in the construction of the box, may be the materials or bad projection of production.

I would like to know what my Profiler Friends around the world may recommend me. I haven't made up my mind about a Kress 1050 FME. I saw in You Tube two clips that worry me, one of which is 800 FME model which vibrates a lot; and the other is a dismantled 1050 FME. In this clip nothing is said, I think it’s just to show faults. The other alternative is DREMEL 400 DIGITAL, which I consider amateur but it looks robust.

If anyone has been through the same, please give me your opinions and advice.

Best regards,
David Soares

David,

Have a look in the German and Dutch profiler forum and search for "Kress". Everbody there reports good results.
I've a Proxxon IB/E. Also very acccurate, but motor less strong (110 Watt).

Oscillating is alway a building error. It absolutely can 9and must) without !

There is no problem of writing messages on these forums in English (and there's much more to do than on this English linguage forum).

Hi David,

I use a Kress 1050 FME with no problem at all. No vibrations and the profiier has no problem with the weight. I even have attached a dust-, no problem this extra weight.
I think the kress one version lighter, the 800 will be sufficient...

Don't forget to order the right size clamps for your drills and milling tools.
Hope this helps.

Good luck with your choices...

Pieter

Dear friends
Thanks for the info and opinions, which made decide to buy the Kress 1050FME splindle.

Now I have two problems:
-Where to buy it? I live in Portugal. Here the price is 199€+VAT, which is out of question.

- Where do I buy Kress Mounting Block for Profiler or is it better to hand made?

I saw in the site http://www.damencnc.com/ the 1050FME Kress and the mounting block and I think it doesn't adapt to Profiler, but I not sure...

Thanks once again!
David

Hi David,

Most people in the Benelux did buy at
www.damencnc.com (also www.damencnc.nl).

Did myself borrow some mills at
www.cncplus.de (arrived within 5 days).

They also sell Spindle motors like Kress.
A mounting-block with Euro collar can bought there too.

I know from a friend who did build his own mill that DamenCNC can made custom holes as you like. So if you order the hart-distance and the diameter of the holes I think that can be fixed. The "native block" will not fit.

The picture at cncplus.de shows that the arms are long enough to fit every type of mill.

Hi David,

I can confirm Hessel; bought mine at www.cncplus.de in Germany and they had a nice and fast delivery. I also ordered their mounting block and had to drill the holes and cut of both arms/sidewings. Did it by hand, requires some accuracy but easy to do. See the picture above, two posts earlier.
I believe Damen has a nice mounting-block too (better shaped for the profiler) and if they can adapt it for you...

cheerio...

Pieter

Hello milling friends,

some month' ago I modified three of my Ferm-spindels to eliminate the free play of the axis. It was quite simple: A suitable washer in the housing upon the upper bearing was a cheap and quickly done solution. Meanwhile a lot of PCBs are made with this "poor people spindel". Results can be seen at Hessels 3. link above (ColinBus + TARGET).

Greetings

Peter

Hi,

I’ve Exchange some e-mails with Kevin Damien, from DAMEN CNC and he’s going to produce a kress mounting block suitible for Colinbus Profiler. As he said to me, this last week he already had other person asking for the same. Now I’m going to give him the necessary reference marks so he can produce a Kress Holder with compatible holes with the vertical base which binds the Z-axis to the profiler.

In future, if anyone’s interested, you’ll know that soon he’ll have a solution for our milling machines.

Has for what Peter says, I would like you to show me photos, if that's possible. Although I’m buying Kress splinde, I would like to have my FERM operational.

Greetings to all,
David

Pieter,

Where did you buy the mounting for the vacuum cleaner or how did you make it?

Thanks,

Jonas, Sweden

Hi Jonas,

To inspire you for better!
Let me describe it as a Scrap-vacu-sucker-study-project.
But it works great.

This was the study for the vacu-adapter 3d-parts:
http://www.elektor.nl/forum/forum/actuele-projecten/colidrive-struikelt-bij-3d.408852.lynkx
But than I found out the bad 3D capabilities of the profiler. Ended up in a transplantation of the profiler processorboard to the card of Benny and using Mach3. I hope to mill a better vacu-connector (better air-flow and esthetics) in near future.

This is about the electronics rebuild (second part in english!):

Ciao!
Pieter

Quick tip to use your Kress almost immediately

I just bought the Kress 1050 for 139 euros + VAT from CNCPlus.de. Came within 2 weeks. To use it immediately with 'reasonable' accuracy until you have a proper holder, you can modify the Profiler Ferm holder by attaching about 7mm thick plywood between the backplate and the holder and by drilling 2 holes for the M5x12 screws, then apply enough tape around the flange of the Kress. It's not perfect, but for PCB work it will do a great job. Make sure the base of the Kress makes firm contact with the holder.

Happier milling.

Hi David:
I'm looking for to buy the PROFILER mainly for the production of PCB. I want to know your opinion and also the precision that I can expect with this type of work.
Mainly I want to mill PCB for SMD components .
Best Regards

I have the Kress 1050, and I just used the standard holder with a strip of sheet aluminium wrapped around the kress to make the mount diameter match the hole in the profiler mount
