I found a 3.5 inch floppy in my old collection which is marked "ESS 9461961" and 1994. On the floppy is a PIC assembler and stuff.
Does anyone know which project this was used for?

Diskette 9461961 is for the PIC Programming Course which was published in the July/Aug, Sep, Oct and Nov 1994 issues of Elektor Electronics. See also the PIC Programmer project in the March 1994 issue.
