Hi, I've just taken out a subscription and despite the link in the magazine not pointing to here, I've found my way here to the dedicated forum for the "Electronics for Starters" course.

My background is that of a lapsed hobbyist. I have a basic knowledge of electronics from O-Grade Physics, some 20 years ago and have tinkered with fixing the odd electrical item over the years.

I would like to dust off the cobwebs on my electronics knowledge and add to it by learning to program microcontrollers to help me repair some obsolete radio equipment.

The first part of this course made sense to me, despite not having built any of the analogue circuits. I could probably solve that practical problem by obtaining some breadboard.

What I was a little bit of a loss at was the microcontroller example. Could someone explain what I might need in terms of parts to try this example out? I've also very little idea as to what the each line of the BASCOM programme does. I only know that one LED is lit all the time and the other flashes (on for 0.5s, off for 0.5s).

If anyone can help me with the microcontroller example or suggest further reading, then I'd be most grateful.

Elektor ran a course on Basom AVR starting in the September 2008 edition. I believe the product is from MCS electronics.

Richard
