Hi Guys,
I have recently renewed my amateur radio licence (EI8GCB) and now need a HF receiver.
I would welcome your opinions on how the SDR published in the May 2007 issue coupled with the Preselector published in the Dec 2009 would compare in performance with a good HF receiver.
I have also tried to find the software at digilander.libero.it for testing my Sound card, without success. Could someone help me?
Many Thanks
FS

Hi, Welcome.
I made and using the SDR and it works nicely, thanks to Burkhard Kainka and EE. but once your sound card is tested OK, and you are able to procure one CY27EE16FZXEC . I use active mini Patch antenna by PA0RDT as i stay in a multi-storied building and unable to have Long wire Ant.
what is the make and model of your PC mother board /Laptop and please indicate the sound-card make and mode.
Elektor have published a sound-card tester using 555 chip, see here
http://www.elektor.com/magazines/2007/june/sdr-soundcard-tester.91895.lynkx
it is easy to rig up, and helps you qualify the sound card.
otherwise a sound card can always be bought.
all the best

Hi Sarma
Many thanks for prompt reply
My PC has XP and SP3 installed
AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual core4000+2.1 Ghz
2 GB RAM
Audio hardware integrated into motherboard. Type Unknown Audio Realtek AC’97
I have searched using your link but still cant find that software for checking my soundcard. I have also looked at the link on the June2007 article on Elektor.
I am now beginning to wonder if I am missing the point in that I should be using standard SDR radio control software (which I have downloaded) rather than a dedicated piece of software to analyse the effect of the sound card on the output of the 555 test circuit generating the I and Q signals as suggested in that June 2007 article. If the test requires specific software I would really appreciate ur help in locating it
You mention the CY27EE16ZE chip and from ur comment I get the impression they are hard to come by.
I had intended purchasing the complete kits from the Elektor shop. Surely they would be included in the kit?
Thanks again for ur interest and help
Regards
FS

Hi, please download sdradio ver1.0 software by digilander at www.weaksignals.com
while you are yest to get the SDR from elektor, perhaps wiring up the 55 based terst circuit would be easy, even it could be bread boarded
the output can be connected to LINE IN jack of the sound card section
then power up the 555 and open the "OPTIONS" and select the soundcard skew calibration.
you would get detailed instructions in the main article at Elektor May2007.
all the best please.

Realtech AC97 is a known sound card chipset.
while we await your test report, i would like you to study the contents of the link below. it discusses suitability or otherwise of many soundcards for DRM reception using SDradio.
Hope, though an old post, it throws some light.
